Biologists have told about a new strain of bacteria that are not afraid of antibiotics

American doctors have revealed in patients of Houston clinics a new strain of super bacteria which is resistant to almost all antibiotics. This pathogen was found in every third patient. According to James Musser of the Methodist Hospital of Houston, this discovery was a big and unpleasant surprise.

It is known that this is a new strain of pneumococci and it is very common among human’s bacteria. For today doctors do not know how to deal with the new strain and what it can do. Experts have analyzed the genome of more than 1.700 strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae found in patients in Texas hospitals in the past four years. During the analysis, the experts have found CG307 strain synthesizing specific enzymes able to resist even the most powerful antibiotics as carbapenems.

The strain was first identified in Texas hospitals in 2015. We have every reason to believe that this strain will take a place among other populations of hospital pathogens. Apparently, CG307 strain has included E. coli and plaque genes. Due to this fact it can infect mammals. For now, when the strain is staying in its habitat (in the human intestine), it is not able to cause a massive infection. However, in case of weakened immunity the bacterium is able to get into another environment.
