Experts have approached to creation of a cure for Autism

Researchers from the University of California have discovered a new biomarker in the EEG in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), suffering from Dup15q syndrome. The reason of Dup15q syndrome is a duplication of the section of 15th chromosome. This is one of the most common genetic abnormalities associated with ASD, Medical Xpress reports.

In increasing frequency physicians are able to determine the genetic causes of autism. But there are no specific recommendations for such children. EEG was carried out for 11 children with Dup15q syndrome, for 10 children with ASD but without Dup15q syndrome, and for 9 normally developed children. EEG has shown a distinctive "signature" in the participants with Dup15q syndrome. The researchers hope that their discovery may lead to the development of new methods of diagnosis and treatment of autism.

Before that the scientists from Yale University have learned to predict on brain activity whether the treatment may help preschoolers with autism. Experts analyzed data of fMRI brain scans of children with autism before and after treatment. They found the markers of efficient therapy. When they studied the activity in the orbitofrontal cortex involved in the processing of social information, the researchers were able to predict the child response to the treatment.
