Development of a new powerful antibiotic agent

Mycobacterium abscessus is an aggressive mycobacterium; it is often fatal for people with chronic lung diseases and those with cystic fibrosis and weakened immunity as well. Scientists from America have managed to develop a promising compound - T405, which can solve this problem.

This drug has been shown to be effective against Mycobacterium abscessus. In trials, T405 has also shown the ability to prevent the development of pathogens resistance when the additional antibiotic is used. In animal testing on mice, T405 was well tolerated and its use was associated with fewer toxic side effects. However, scientists will need to conduct numerous studies and improve its pharmacological activity to launch this drug on the market.
