A deadly new virus in Africa

The virus was discovered when a patient, who subsequently died, turned to a local clinic wherein a group of researchers was sent to study his symptoms according to WHO. Samples were taken and analysed. As it turned out, the patient had Guinea haemorrhagic fever. An event is now being held to identify people who may have previously been in contact with the patient died from Marburg virus.

The first case was reported near the border of Liberia and Sierra Leone, two borders affected by Ebola epidemic. This virus causes haemorrhagic fever and is transmitted to humans from bats. Like Ebola virus, this pathogen is transmitted from person to person through direct contact with biological fluids as well as contaminated materials. WHO said that the infection outbreaks had previously been reported in Angola, Kenya, South Africa and Uganda.
