A new model may predict medicines expiration
Temperature-dependent phase separation is one of the ways in which these drugs that use monoclonal antibodies are destabilized and become unusable. The described innovative method allows to quickly examine several samples simultaneously.
The authors of the method, a team of scientists of the University of Pennsylvania and MedImmune (AstraZeneca), believe that such method can be used to predict the stability and the shelf life of drugs more accurately.
In addition, the new method can potentially be used to determine the ideal properties of a solution (carrier) for a particular drug so that it remains stable for as long as possible.
