Alcoholism will be treated with "digital medicines"

The license gives Orexo US rights to Vorvida, an app for treating alcohol-related disorders. The mechanism of action is based on methods of cognitive-behavioral therapy, and it works on an artificial intelligence platform called Broca. At the beginning of this year, Vorvida was launched by the developer, Gaia AG, in Germany and Switzerland.

Clinical trials involving more than 600 people have shown that volunteers from Vorvida group significantly reduced their daily alcohol consumption within three and six months compared with the control group.

This is not the first time when Orexa gets the license for Gaia product. In August, the Swedish company also acquired global rights to its program for the treatment of opioid-related disorders, named as OXD01. The program is still being finalized. Gaia launched its first digital therapeutic remedy in 2001 and it was tested in the UK.
