Doctors hope that embryonic stem cells will overcome serious diseases

Physicians from China are planning to find out whether Parkinson's disease and blindness can be cured with embryonic stem cells. Let us recall that these are pluripotent stem cells capable to create any type of adult body cells. According to the Science World Report, if the test results are positive, the treatment standards will be changed around the world.

The trials start in the coming months. They will be conducted by the doctors from Zhengzhou. One group of the experts is going to inject embryonic stem cells into the brains of people with Parkinson's disease. The scientists believe that the method will help to cope with the symptoms of the disease.

Another team of the experts will test people who have lost sight. Embryonic stem cells will replace dead cells of the retina in these patients.

The scientists are sure that the results will be positive. Qi Zhou, the expert from the Institute of Zoology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that 4 years animal trials have shown the encouraging results. The experts also want to solve ethical issues and increase the safety of stem cell treatment.
