Lack of sleep causes a huge risk to your body
Researchers from Bar-Ilan University in Israel have found that the body repairs damaged DNA and counteracts neurodegeneration (the destruction of nerve cells in the brain) during sleep. This is observed especially in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.
For the research, the scientists have studied transparent zebrafish. The scientists have coloured zebrafish chromosomes. The researchers have found that the carriers of genetic information showed no or small activity during the day.
If the body sleeps too little, it has no time to repair the brain’s genetic restoration.
