Omega-3 is an effective remedy for type 1 diabetes

Omega-3 fatty acids can reverse the development of type 1 diabetes or improve the condition with an already diagnosed disease, Science World Report reports referring to the work of Guangdong University of Technology.

Scientists added fatty acids to the diet of mice with diabetes. Cells of the pancreas could not produce insulin, as a result the level of sugar became unregulated. Mice ate a regular food and products with polyunsaturated fatty acids, including omega-3 supplements.

The scientists checked the state of mice every three months (insulin level and glucose tolerance, as well as pancreatic status). The presence of omega-3 improved glucose metabolism, pancreatic status and reduced the concentration of inflammatory signaling proteins. In addition there was a generation of beta cells that secrete insulin. The scientists note that useful fatty acids can be found in seafood, fatty fish (salmon), soybeans, walnuts, fish oil, linseed oil, chia seeds, spinach and fish caviar.
