Topical drug to treat Rosacea

In a randomized, double-blind study, the experimental drug ACU-D1 has been shown to be safe and effective in reducing the symptoms of Rosacea. ACU-D1 (pentaerythritol tetrakis (3- (3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) propionate)) is a phenolic primary antioxidant that is odorless. It was used in adult volunteers with both moderate and severe Rosacea.

The participants were randomly divided into two groups in a 2:1 ratio for topical ACU-D1 treatment and placebo for 12 weeks 2 times a day followed by 2 weeks of follow-up. Among the side effects, the scientists have identified sweating, dry skin and warmth. These adverse events were mild enough so none of them led to discontinuation of treatment. The American company Accuitis, which is also the developer of ACU-D1, is considered a leading candidate, which develops projects against Alzheimer's disease and systemic sclerosis as well.
