Universal remedy for all the strains of influenza virus has been found

CSIRO research source, the University of British Columbia and the University of Bath presented a new drug against influenza. It has been proved that it prevents the spread of different strains of influenza by using laboratory models.

The drug served its purpose even against resistant strains. It was developed thanks to Dr. Jenny Makkimm-Breshkin (creator of the first drug for Relenza influenza). As a result of the work, the mechanism of influenza virus resistance was found and an improved drug was obtained. The drug is attached to the influenza virus in a special place. All the strains have this place; that means that the drug, most likely, will also serve its purpose against strains that have not appeared yet. The scientists are afraid that the virus will mutate and start spreading all over the world, infecting people.According to the WHO, the influenza kills about 500000 people a year. The necessity in panacea has been stated for a long time. However, even if the trials of a new drug will go well, it will be able to enter the market only in 7 years approximately.
